Titus Maero: Depressed NMG journalist commits suicide

Titus Maero’s profile at Nation Media Group: It is such a shame that despite earnestly working for the company for close to a decade, they never bothered to add a face to his name

The decomposing body of a seasoned Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist was on Thursday night found in Lulonda Village, Navakholo, Kakamega County.

The 59-year-old man identified as Titus Maero was a long-serving Sports Correspondent who mostly covered events from Western Kenya.

Maero is reported to have committed suicide inside his own house after what many suspect to be depression that was caused by his 15-year battle with intestinal cancer.

Friends and family say that respected scribe who separated from his wife over 20 years ago rarely interacted with people and often kept to himself.

“He was last seen in public on Thursday last week and he was very reserved just like usual” noted one of his colleagues at the scene.

Maero left a suicide note whose contents detectives are yet to disclose.

The journalist’s body was ferried to the Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary as police launched further investigations into the incident.

He leaves behind two children.
