Trump backs off holding corona patients in Alabama

The Trump administration has shelved off plans to quarantine patients from the Diamond Princess cruise ship stricken with coronavirus at a state facility in Alabama, Alabama Senator Richard Shelby said.

The news came out as worry continues to grow over the spread of the fatal corona virus outside China with a spike in the number of cases reported in South Korea, Iran and Italy.

Professionals were baffled over outbreaks with unclear links to China. “I just got off the phone with the President and he told me that his administration will be send any victims of the Coronavirus from the Diamond Princess cruise ship to Anniston, Alabama.  Senator Richard Shelby (Republican) from Alabama said on Twitter. Alabama Governor Kay Ivey also tweeted that she had thanked President Trump  on the move in a phone call.

Efforts to reach to the White House for a comment were futile as the president departed on a foreign trip to India for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services had reported on Saturday that it would house American passengers evacuated from the said ship who had tested positive for the virus at former Army base in Anniston, Alabama.

But the plan to quarantine them remains unclear if the plan to house them in Alabama is scrapped scrapped.

Over 630 passengers have been confirmed as infected with coronavirus and three have died. Diamond Princess is a British cruise ship that sails primarily in Southeast Asia, is quarantined near Tokyo.
