Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has denied that it has rolled out mass transfer of teachers countrywide.
In a statement on Tuesday, TSC said it was merely seeking routine field data on staffing of schools for planning purposes.
Reports of impending mass transfers and delocalisation of school heads in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic and a tight school calendar may have triggered panic among teachers.
TSC Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nancy Macharia clarified that they would not consider such action.
“The Commission, therefore, wishes to assure teachers that the Commission does not plan to effect any mass transfers as alleged in the newspaper story. Teachers must be left to continue conducting their normal teaching duties and conduct national examinations without any interference. Meanwhile, we urge the media to always report accurately” she stated.
Education CS last week announced tough measures to ensure the credibility of the national examinations.
What may have caused jitters could be the redeployment of supervisors and invigilators who have been in the same examination centre for more than two consecutive years noting that the reshuffle was in line with KNEC’s policy.
1,938,667 candidates will sit for the final primary and secondary examinations.
KCPE exams will commence on March 22 and end on March 24 while KCSE examinations will start on 26th March 2021 and end on April 21.
Assessment tests for Grade four pupils under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) kicked off Monday.
