The Teachers Service Commission has announced plans to put up a biometric system in a bid to curb cheating during national exams.

TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia says that the system will involve taking of all teachers’ finger prints to uniquely identify individuals tampering with examination  papers.

According to Macharia, the move will also help shield teachers who are wrongly accused of tampering with exams and aiding exam cheating.

Speaking during the release of the KSCE exam results, Macharia says that the plan is currently in its final stages.

“We have resolved to a biometric system to help in accurately detect perpetrator who do the tampering examination. This will be done by taking the fingerprints of all the teachers in public schools. The use of this biometrics will help in saving the innocent teachers who are attacked wrongly,” said Macharia.

Macharia stated this even as it emerged that some teachers had attempted to aid exam cheating using their phones.

She stated that teachers would take photos of the papers and send them to students or people hired by them to answer the questions for the students.

“We have resolved to a biometric system to help in accurately detect perpetrator who do the tampering examination. This will be done by taking the fingerprints of all the teachers in public schools. The use of this biometrics will help in saving the innocent teachers who are attacked wrongly,” said Nancy.
