Local supermarket chain Tuskys today announced that they have sent home 68 employees who were either pregnant or suffering from other conditions and were more vulnerable to contracting the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
“@TuskysOfficial today we have allowed 68 of our most vulnerable staff (pregnant mothers, people with other conditions), to stay home to avoid exposing them.” Tuskys Chief Executive Officer Daniel Githua wrote on his Twitter account.
Tuskys has been on the forefront in the fight against COVID-19 having recently teamed up with Amref Health Africa Kenya to provide on-ground health education and awareness support at Tuskys Supermarkets.
Tuskys has also partnered with logistics firm Sendy to deliver shopping to customers at their doorstep as a way of curbing the spread of Coronavirus.
“The move will see Tuskys customers make purchases of groceries from the comfort of their homes and have them delivered to their doorsteps, hence avoiding the crowded areas,” Tusky’s said.
Tuskys had earlier announced that dozens of employees would be let goin a bid to restructure to help it stay afloat.
In a letter to Boniface Kavuvi, the secretary-general of Kenya Union of Commercial, Food and Allied Workers, Tuskys had said it had already informed affected employees of the impending decision. “The company’s performance in the last two years has been on the decline.
