Uasin Gishu County Abstains

Governor Mandago led Uasin Gishu county has abstained from voting the Building Bridges Initiative, (BBI) Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020.

This followed a bill from the delegated legislation committee chaired by Patrick Bundotich that proposed the assembly abstains from voting on the bill.

After debating for more than five hours the house was forced to take a vote on whether to adopt the committee report or not, 27 members of the county assembly supported the report with 19 opposing.

The county speaker David Kiplagat ruled that since the committee report had been adopted, the report on the BBI would not be debated.

The abstaining by Uasin Gishu does not impede the push towards the referendum after 43 counties passed the bill while three, namely Baringo, Nandi and Elegeyo Marakwet rejected the bill.

The BBI bill is at the National Assembly and the Senate.
