President Uhuru Kenyatta led the launch of General Unlimited partnership (GenU) in Kenya on wednesday. The partnership will empower young people between 10 and 24 years of age through trainings and employment.
While speaking during virtual launch that was streamed on Facebook, Kenyatta said the programme will give youngs kenyans unlimited opportunity to spearhead change in the society as it recognises that youth agenda is defining the times.
The president also revealed that the goals of the initiative are not different to the ones his administration is targeting through the Big Four Agenda.
Kenyanyatta urged the youth to create groups and register companies that can be granted responsibilities through the various programmes under GenU.
President Kenyatta was appointed General Unlimited Partnership global head in 2018.
He added that the initiative will create a great opportunity that will attract investors from the global market to Kenya especially now that levels of unemployment has been made worse by the covid-19 pandemic.
“I welcome GenU as a platform which will enable leaders, partners and stakeholders to make investments that will unlock the potential of Kenyan youth and the youth world over,” the president said.
He further pointed that his government is already benefiting the youth through projects as Kazi Mtaani and Ajira digital programme.
He went on to promise that in the spirit of creating more job opportunities, he plans to appoint more youth in his government as CASs.
The current Health Ministry CAS Dr. Mercy Mwangangi is the youngest in Kenyatta’s cabinet.
The head of state also appreciated that the quality of education in Kenya is comparatively higher to countries in the region, recognise that Kenya will have labour force that will compete anywhere in the world.
Jubilee administration has always given the education sector a lion’s share of the national budget as financial year 2020/21 saw the sector get 25%.
