Uhuru Risks Loosing Retirement Benefits

The Kenyan newspapers today have reported that former president Uhuru Kenyatta risks losing his retirement perks if he remains as Jubilee Party leader.

The Retirement Benefits Act bars him from holding office in any political party six months after ceasing to hold office as president

The former head of state vowed to stay put, insisting he won’t retire from politics just yet.

The new Jubilee Party leaders gave Uhuru six months to negotiate the way forward.

“We have come up with a six-month roadmap which will define where we are heading to,” the party’s deputy secretary general Joshua Kutuny said.

A faction of Jubilee MPs who toppled party leader Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies has threatened to kick him out of the party if he doesn’t give in to their demands.

The leaders led by EALA MP Kanini Kega want Uhuru to work with President William Ruto or be ousted from the party leadership.
