Uhuru strolls at the Mama Ngina Waterfront

President Uhuru Kenyatta who is touring the coastal town of Mombasa strolled around Mama Ngina Waterfront Park on Sunday evening where met and interacted with vendors.

They complained of economic strain brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Tourism which is a major sector at the coast is one of the most affected but the president assured traders of Government’s support to ensure that business returns to normalcy at the refurbished park.

The park which was opened on october 20 2019 and named after the former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta is facing criticism after a rights group based in Mombasa demanded a rename.

Mombasa has witnessed heightened political activities since the country began recording low numbers of coronavirus cases.

ODM leader Raila Odinga was in the same town last week to drum up support for BBI report that us yet to be released. Odinga’s meeting came two weeks after DP William Ruto also visited Mombasa to popularize his 2022 presidential bid.
