#UNLOCKourCOUNTRY : The Pandemic Of Betrayal Was More Brutal Than The Virus Itself

In a face-saving measure, Uhuru’s propaganda machinery is attempting to conjure narratives defending the lifting of some of the measures announced on March 27th in his misguided and ill-informed attempt to manage COVID-19 infections. His propagandists have claimed the push of the curfew hours was necessitated by school reopening, others also claimed that infections have actually decreased according to data provided by the phantom “experts” cited severally as the brainchild’s of the new measures.

Nobody wants to give credit to the #UNLOCKourCOUNTRY movement spear-headed by members of the entertainment and hospitality industry. Nobody wants to appreciate the tireless efforts of the #StopLoaningKenya movement who have and continue bombarding the IMF social media pages with the clarion call for the Bretton Woods institutions to suspend their credit facilities with the country. Nobody wants to blame the civil society and community based organizations who launched the #PeoplesMarchToStatehouse protests on May 1st and the international media attention it received.

Amongst the young middle class Kenyans we have out here, many have been captured as mental slaves by the state-sponsored propaganda machinery and continue to allow divisive sentiment to cloud their judgement.

The truth is that none of the pro-Uhuru, pro-Ruto or pro-Odinga, pro-Kalonzo politicians stood with Kenyans. Everyone was conspicuously silent and were almost reading from the same script regarding the measures passed by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Infact you could sense their disappointment when Uhuru yielded to pressure and read his underwhelming speech on Labor Day, with clowns like Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior tweeting a reverse-psychology message, warning of a more severe lockdown if Kenyans misbehaved.

Last year we all felt helpless as we watched noisy politicians, corrupt bloggers, partisan propagandists and bribed journalists run amok and promote the lockdown/curfew agenda, a narrative which was weaponized to coincide with various political experiments including realignments in the ruling party, inclusion of opposition into government, campaigns for constitutional review under the BBI banner and promotion of new entrants in the presidential foray.

As businesses perished and workers lost jobs, the same bribed bloggers & journalists spinning the narratives that hashtags don’t work (Robert Alai, Dikembe Disembe, Abraham Mutai, Oliver Mathenge, Jeff Koinange) and only ODM protests are successful, were busy tweeting #UhuruDontOpen , one of the many sterile digital campaigns meant to influence policy at the detriment of the economy. It was quite the unraveling to see people who predominantly live off online mercenary activities, besmirch and downplay the very platforms that they use to influence policy.

Their narratives emanated from senior writers up the food-chain like Mutahi Ngunyi, Junet Mohammed, Sakaja Johnson and Njeri Thorne, who micro-managed the content which these bloggers were tweeting, sanitizing illegalities and normalizing erosion of our democratic gains.

For Robert Alai in particular, Twitter has been his base of operations for economic sabotage, where for instance he ran the #EndGamblingKE hashtag ostensibly meant to fight the vice cumulatively, but crafted to demonize one betting company (SportPesa) while paving the way for new entrants to replace the void left by the pioneer betting start-up. So it was quite hilarious to see the same person who has successfully utilized Twitter to run such dark campaigns, downplaying organic movements like #UNLOCLourCOUNTRY .

Betrayal has come from far and wide and even the international community were suspiciously quiet as rights and freedoms were deliberately eroded, political realignments launched as they fraternized with corrupt individuals who’ve been banned from entry into their countries. US Ambassador to Kenya Eric Kneedler and British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott were shamelessly white-washing criminals like Gideon Moi, totally against the spirit of their predecessors like Smith Hempstone, Michael Ranneberger and Edward Clay who abhorred corruption and fought dictatorship tooth and nail.

Through Jane Marriott and Eric Kneedler, colonialism has reared its ugly head once again. One of the most depressing lessons of white colonialism in Africa, was that if the colonialists liked a certain African individual, for whatever reason, then he (or she) would take this person into his confidence to the exclusion of all others.

White colonialists in the process would become blind to the transgressions committed by the favored Africans, thereby creating a class of such individuals who had no other qualification than the confidence and their likability by the Colonialists.

Those who fell in this category had some distinct attributes, for example they exhibited an exaggerated subservience to the wisdom and intellect of the Europeans even if it meant obfuscating their own, and additionally a measure of (often hypocritical) piety before finally, having to have a measure of literacy to allow a seamless communication and feeling of camaraderie with the Colonialist.

The colonialists in real sense want an African around them that was more inclined to be like him by virtue of education or exposure to Western values and life outlook.

Coincidentally, the pandemic period also led to the biggest transfer of wealth from the working class to billionaires, at the same time eroding democratic gains and diminished freedoms of the same group of people’s whose wealth was “stolen” under the guise of COVID enforcement measures. Jane Marriott and Eric Kneedler being agents of the Imperial Empire have adjusted their priorities and no longer care about the ordinary man. For them this is the golden opportunity to consolidate gains and business prospects of their main sponsors, the big business of their countries.

In Gideon Moi, Jane Marriott and Eric Kneedler see a kindred spirit, one who can guarantee a continuation of their vested interests as regards to military hardware sales, the politically exploited “war on terror” and in-turn, the white agents of imperialism can turn a blind eye to his infractions and reinstate his travel credentials to their countries which offer a safe haven for their proceeds of crime.

Unlike their predecessors who funded and deeply defended civil society, Jane Marriott and Eric Kneedler did not make any effort to reach out to the conveners of #UNLOCKourCOUNTRY movement, because they’ve been co-opted and integrated into the corrupt networks of Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, where the illusion of peace is more important than the actual well-being of citizens and safeguarding of democratic rights and principles.

As young Kenyans re-assert their position in governance of the country, it is not the voice of our enemies which we will remember but the silence of our friends. The betrayal by the international community especially the British and American envoys has been glaring, and one day we shall revisit and ensure that history holds it on record that British High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott and US Ambassador to Kenya Eric Kneedler, eroded all the democratic gains spear-headed by their predecessors and went to bed with our oppressors.
