list of Quarantine Centers
We have been in government mandatory quarantine facility from 23rd March when we arrived in the country. Incidentally, we were all in the same flight home.
We have faithfully followed the government directive for 14 days quarantine. Today marks our 23rd day at this facility. During this period, the MOH has conducted 2 COVID 19 tests, in both this occasions we have had a total of 6 positive cases who were immediately isolated, 4 of which have been discharged from hospital. The rest of us have tested negative on both occasions.
After the first 14 days expiry, govt extended quarantine for additional 14 days which expired today. Last week the ministry clearly stated that the second test will result in the closure of the quarantine facilities, those who would turn negative would be released while any positive cases will go to isolation/hospitals. Unfortunately, that has not been the case and we are demanding for the following:

1. After testing negative twice, we should be released to rejoin our families immediately. Reference to WHO guidelines on quarantine should apply. We fail to understand what else the government want us to do, and what informs our continued forced detention here.

2. Since the results of the second negative results, the Centre management has since selectively discharged three people and left the rest of us at the Centre, we do not understand the basis on which the ministry used to discharge the three. does the government have double standards for discharge from quarantine facilities? We demand that the same standard used to discharge our colleagues be applied to us as well.

3. We do not have the means to pay for the cost of quarantine at the facility, we are therefore unable to continue staying in this facilities and Self-quarantine at home should be used for the people that has posted negative results after 2 tests.

4. We no longer feel safe at the quarantine centres as they now appear as breeding grounds for COVID-19, how do you explain the insistence of MOH to continue keeping us here longer even after posting negative status twice? What do they want to achieve? Even if we were positive before we travelled, WHO guidelines require that any person that posts two subsequent negative tests, should be declared free of the virus.

5. We have in the recent past experienced contradictory communique from MOH with regards to closure of the Q.Cs, in the last briefing the CS announced that all QCs were to be closed by end of last week, when we asked the Centre mgt why we are still here, they indicated to us that govt plays politics at press conferences and give different circular directives to its officers on the ground. We therefore demand consistent government actions in dealing with its law-abiding citizens at the centres.

Lastly, quarantine centres are not detention facilities but rather are guided by WHO protocols. This standards were developed in order to protect citizens from the excesses of a government that may be keen to infringe on the personal liberties or its citizens like is turning out to be in the prevailing circumstances.

We are very peaceful we just demand answers and we cannot afford hio cost… And the machine they used to test those 4 of us who were released they should use that on us too and let us go. We are at k.u main gate
