War drums as Kuria issues early warning to UDA for upcoming Meru by-election – Kenyan_Report

Gatundu South member of parliament Moses Kuria is considered a light weight when it comes to financial issues, but over the past couple of weeks, he has been making major moves, the latest being his recent push to roll out a recruitment drive for his People’s Empowerment Party, PEP, an exercise which is not a cheap feat.

This comes hot on the heels of his revelation last week that he has been receiving financial help from the Deputy President. With this in mind, it is now baffling many pundits as to whether the Deputy President could actually be funding opposing camps in Central Kenya (the Rigathi Gachagua led wing and that of Moses Kuria), and if so, then to what end.

During the launching of the recruitment drive plan for PEP by Moses Kuria, he reinstated an earlier stand concerning by-elections, sending an indirect threat to UDA party and Rigathi Gachagua.

Kuria declared that his party’s withdrawal from the Kiambaa constituency by-election was going to be the first and last time that he did so, promising that moving forward, he would make sure that he has a candidate taking part in each and every by-election, up to next year’s general election.

He then went ahead to single out the forthcoming by-election in Kiagu Ward, Central Imenti, Meru county. The Gatundu South legislator made it clear that he would be having a candidate in the poll, and wouldn’t stand down in favour of anyone else.

Earlier on, Kuria had intended to field a candidate in the Kiambaa constituency by-election but was prevailed upon to shelve his ambitions in favour of the UDA candidate, so as not to split votes in the DP allied camp.
The Kiagu Ward seat fell vacant following the death of the area’s MCA Eunice Karegi who succumbed to illness recently. She belonged to Dr. Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap.
