Jubilee Vice-chair David Murathe’s comment that Kenyans should prepare for a Raila presidency in 2022 has sparked a heated debate.
Murathe urged Kenyans to consider rewarding ODM leader Raila Odinga for the sacrifices he has made for the country.
Some leaders have dismissed statement by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s ally as premature and personal and does not represent the position of the party or its leadership.
Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a) another President Kenyatta, told off Murathe via a social media post that he can not speak on behalf of the Mt Kenya region.
“Anyone purporting to be Mt Kenya spokesman other than the President is representing himself and not Mt Kenya. Succession politics is not yet,” Kang’ata said.
The Murang’a Senator also called on Kenyans to ignore rumours that the region had found Uhuru’s successor.
COTU Boss Francis Atwoli abacked Murathe’s remarks on Raila for the presidency in 2022, a day after Murathe asked Kenyans to prepare for the presidency of the opposition leader.
However, Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga who is a close ally of Raila also dismissed remarks by Murathe and Atwoli as personal views.
“Raila has been clear that he does not want to discuss 2022 at the moment. His focus is putting the country together but he cannot stop people from giving their views,” she said.
Murathes-raila is DP William Ruto’s critic who has asked the country’s number two retire alongside Kenyatta in 2022.
While speaking on Saturday, Murathe also asked Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka to pave way for Odinga who will certainly be on the ballot acome 2022.
Kalonzo who party has signed a post election pact with Jubilee Party is among the politicians clouting around the president to be endorsed in 2022.
The former vice president who has been Odinga’s running in the last two elections said that 2022 is his time to ascend to power.
