Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki

Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki is back in the headlines.

This week, the former Senate majority leader’s name has dominated local tabloids as Deputy President William Ruto took his campaign trail to his home area.

During the tour, Kindiki delivered some tough words to his former boss President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He claimed Uhuru had lied to and betrayed the people of Mt Kenya.

The distinguished Law Professor who once held high ranks in Kenya’s “deep state” told urged residents not to be coerced into supporting Raila Odinga, whom he said is President Uhuru’s candidate.

But in one of the rallies held in Maara constituency, which neighbours his home town Tharaka Constituency, Kindiki met a rowdy crowd that heckled him down.

The youthful group seemed to be chanting in favour of current county Governor Muthomi Njuki who declared support for ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga’s 2022 presidential bid last month.

After unsuccessfully attempting to calm down the angry locals, Kindiki was forced to cut his short speech and invite the more likeable county Woman Representative Beatrice Nkatha.

The leaders were speaking on Wednesday in the company of the Deputy President during the empowerment of small traders in Tharaka Nithi.

They were MP Mithika Linturi, Kithure Kindiki, Irungu Kang’ata, Patrick Munene, Kareke Mbiuki, Ndindi Nyoro, Beatrice Nkatha, George Murugara, Rigathi Gachagua and Aisha Jumwa.
