Why Ruto Can’t Save MP Waluke – MP Didmus Barasa

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has dismissed claims that President William Ruto’s government is in bed with the Judiciary, arguing that given the Judiciary space to make independent decisions.

Commenting on Sirisia MP John Waluke’s case, Barasa said there is nothing much President Ruto can do to save the lawmaker serving a 67-year jail term.

According to Barasa, the much that can be done is to facilitate Waluke’s legal to mount a strong case at the Court of Appeal.

“The Judiciary is not in bed with President William Ruto because it is independent. The only way we can help John Waluke is by paying his lawyers,” Barasa said on Monday 31.

On October 6, the High Court ordered Waluke to pay a KSh 1 billion fine or serve 67 years in jail over a KSh 313 million National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) maize fraud case.

Barasa stands differs from Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala, who pleaded with Prime Cabinet Secretary nominee Musalia Mudavadi to help bail out the Sirisia lawmaker.

“I am appealing to Mudavadi, since he is worth KSh 4 billion and this is his brother, to let him donate KSh 1 billion so that Waluke leaves prison,” Wanjala said.
