Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has taken a swipe at some Mt Kenya leaders for what appeared to be an embarrassing Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) rally in Kinoru Stadium, Meru County.
This was in response to ODM chief Raila Odinga post that the meeting was successful, but according to Kabogo, a massive walkout from the venue suggested that things could be different on the ground.
“Our brothers and sisters from the Mt Kenya region have spoken. The issues they want addressed through the BBI process include agricultural sector reforms, increased devolution funding, youth and women’s empowerment and constitutional time frames for corruption cases,” Raila posted on Twitter.
However, in a rejoinder, Kabogo, who was also in attendance, blamed Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi, his Kirinyaga counterpart, Ann Waiguru and Nyandarua boss Francis Kimemia for what he termed as failure to “read” what was on the ground and act accordingly.
“Gov. Kiraitu, waiguru and Kimemia should take responsibility for this mess. Shame on you folks. Do rallies in your counties and asses your ground. You may end up quitting,” he said.
Kabogo further warned Raila that things could not be as rosy as leaders would want him to believe, while daring the former prime minister to direct the governors to do train shows in their respective counties and find out where his popularity lies.
“Baba, things are not as rosy as people would want you to believe. Ask those so-called organizers more so governors to do train shows in their counties, then you’ll know the real position on the ground,” he added.
Kabogo, who is neither in the Kieleweke nor Tanga Tanga factions, went on to reveal that the BBI meetings had changed the theme from a call for unity across the country to rather a supremacy battle on who will control the Mt. Kenya region after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s exit.
