Zachariah Nyaora: Main Suspect In Assault of Female Driver Escapes Arrest

Zachariah Nyaora Obadia: Main suspect whom DCI claims was placed at the crime scene last Friday

Detectives have singled out one suspect believed to have masterminded the sexual harassment incident perpetrated on a female motorist along Wangari Maathai Road.

Through a statement issued on the evening of Tuesday, 8th March 2021, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) disclosed that a man identified as Zachariah Nyaora Obadia was scientifically placed at the crime scene last Friday.

Upon processing this information, the suspect was traced down to Mukuru Kaiyaba informal settlement.

“Using digital forensics, the sleuths working with cybercrime experts at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory, placed the thug at the scene of the crime scientifically and went after him this afternoon deep in Mukuru Kayaba informal settlement,” read part of their statement.

But according to the DCI, sleuths drawn from Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) failed to arrest Mr Nyaora after he narrowly escaped their dragnet through a sewer duct in the densely populated settlement.

The suspect is also said to have been positively identified on the video capturing the sexual assault incident by his wife and other relatives in his rural home.

While assuring of his looming arrest, the DCI further issued an ultimatum for Nyaora’s accomplices to surrender saying that they too have been identified.

“It is only a matter of time before we arrest him.

The DCI is cautioning Zacharia Nyaora not to engage detectives in cat and mouse games but to surrender at DCI headquarters or the nearest Police station within 24 hours,” they warned.

“His accomplices who were within the vicinity of the barbaric attack whether captured on the video clip or not, have all been identified scientifically.

They are ordered to submit themselves at DCI headquarters before detectives catch up with them,” the multi-agency team added.

The young woman who was driving a silver saloon car, was allegedly involved in an accident with one of the Boda Boda riders on Wangari Maathai Road (former Forest Road) prompting the outrage.

In the one-minute video, a crowd of Boda Boda riders were seen following the silver car shouting ‘Come Out’.

The clip started with a number of men following the car, then shortly after, about ten men are seen gathered at the driver’s door.

Some were hitting the body of the car shouting ‘Get her out’.

In the disturbing video, the unidentified woman is heard screaming and struggling with the rowdy young men attempting to yank her out of the car.

The shirt dress she is donning was torn; exposing her inner-wear.

Meanwhile, two men continued to pull and harass her; one is reached for her car keys and another hand is struggling to unfasten her seatbelts.
