Kaaga Girls High School in Meru was named the most improved school in the 2020 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE) exam whose results were released on Monday.
Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha said Kaaga Girls topped the list of schools that admitted candidates with lower KCPE mean scores but posted impressive results in the 2020 KCSE exam.
Kaaga Girls improved the KCPE index from 22.38 percent to 73.98 percent this year, followed by St Joseph Girls Kitale, which improved the score from 21.22 to 71.57%.
Kisasi Secondary School came in third, improving the KCPE index from 20.48 to 68.2%, while Oriwo Boys improved from 31.07 to 78.92%
Other schools that registered improved results include Riokindo High School, St. Joseph Rapogi, Light Academy, Moi Gesusu High, Saye Mixed Secondary School, St. Edward Nyabioto, Wiobiero Secondary, Chuka Boys High School, Strathmore School, Bushra High School, and Mahiga Girls.
A total of 747,161 candidates sat the examination up from 697,222 students in 2019.
Simiyu Robinson Wanjala from Murang’a High School was the leading candidate nationwide with a mean grade of 87.334.
Wasonga Allan of Agoro Sare High School was second with a mean grade of 87.173 followed by Sharon Jepgeno from Kenya High School with a mean score of 87.173.
Rob Ongare was fourth with an average grade of 87.173 followed by Mbugua Esther (87.113), Kipkoech Mark (87.106), Kenneth Orange (87.049), Henry Madaga (87.046), Patience Chepkorir (87. 046), and Musomba Edith (87.013).
893 candidates scored grade A plain in the 2020 examination compared to 627 in 2019.
A total of 143,140 students attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above in 2020, representing a 19. percent increase compared to the 125,747 in the previous year
