COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has warned the deputy president William Ruto to keep off the Western vote constituency arguing that the Luhya nation is not divided except a small section of its leadership.
Speaking during a fundraiser in Kwhisero where he led the drive to raise funds to uplift the Bukwala SDA Church to ultra modern status, the outspoken trade unionist urged Luhya nation and church leaders to keep off dirty money.
Atwoli claimed that he is not contributing much as the DP but his is contribution is clean with clear paper trails.
Ruto has been accused of contributing millions to the churches as a ploy to mobilize the church support ahead of 2022 General elections.
While emphasizing that he was disappointed in the weak political class begging for hand outs at the DP’s doorsteps, Atwoli also accused money hungry church leadership of hero worshipping Dr William Ruto and exposing themselves for manipulation. Atwoli threw more salvos with bravado, Atwoli bragged that he has the capacity to speak for the community and advice or bless individuals he deems fit for political leadership.
Most speakers at the event spoke in the same voice. Emuhaya Mp. Omboko Milema supported remarks by the COTU leader and urged Luhya lawmakers to engage their counterparts in Nandi County to find a lasting solution in the ongoing chaos where members of the Luhya Community are being targeted uprooted from their legally acquired land. Omboko added that his community is not known for land grabbing like the natives of Nandi County.
