An aircraft operated by a local airline, Safarilink Caravan, on Tuesday, October 29, skidded off the runway at Wilson Airport on landing from Lamu.
One of the tyres of the aircraft bearing the registration number, 5Y-SLJ, is reported to have burst on making contact with the runway making the plane to skid off the runway at about 6:25 p.m.
According to reports, the plane had about 10 passengers on board who were travelling from the Coastal town.
However, no fatalities or injuries were reported following the incident.
On August 16, 2019, another Safarilink plane under registration number 5Y-SLM was involved in an accident while landing at the Kichwa Tembo Airstrip, Maasai Mara, Narok County.
A press release by the airline indicated that the plane encountered a number of wildebeests at the runway while it was landing.
“The initial report we have is that a couple of Wildebeests ran across the runway as the aircraft landed,” read part of the press statement.
The aircraft was carrying out a scheduled service with a route starting from Wilson Airport in Nairobi to Maasai Mara and back to Nairobi (Wilson).
The airline, however, noted that all passengers and crew that had boarded the plane were safe.
“We are thankful to confirm all passengers and crew on board the aircraft are safe and there are no injuries or fatalities,” read the statement.
