The son of slain former mayor of Mogadishu has been appointed Somalia’s first secretary to the Somalia mission at the United Nations in New York, US.
According to a circular released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 30th of last month, Mohamed Abdirahman Omar will join the Permanent Mission of the Somalia Republic to the UN.

Mohamed is the son of the immediate former mayor of Mogadishu, Abdirahman Omar Osman, who was killed in late July following an attack by Al-Shabaab operatives on his office complex.
“He (Eng Yariisow) was a fearless hero who served his people. That was one his qualities which we need to learn from him,” President Andullahi Farmaajo said during a memorial event where Mogadishu’s Konis stadium was named “Eng Yariisow” in his memory.
