The leader of Wiper party Kalonzo Musyoka is calling the position of the prime minister to have more powers than it is proposed in the Building Bridges Initiative report.
The one time vice president wants the premier position to be as powerful as that of the Majority Leader in the current arrangement. Blaming the taskforce for being mean on that position, Kalonzo added that the PM position should be open to any Member of Parliament not national assembly.
The former VP further stated that the report was not explicit on the relationship between the senate and the national assembly by defining the position.
Kalonzo also criticized the BBI report for not proposing strict measures to handle party hoping to instil discipline in Kenyan politics.
He however lauded the handshake report’s proposal on the media being the primacy on the war on graft and rewarding whistle blowers but he does not like the fact that the reward will be measured.
Wiper leader also lauded the report’s proposal on gender parity in the governor position but differ with governors Charity Ngilu and Ann Waiguru who called on the same kind of balance in the positions of PM, president and Assembly speakers.
Kalonzo did not express whether he is thirsty for the position or not but reports have it that the DP William Ruto made ‘a down payment’ on him towards the Kibra polls early in the month.
