Meru gets 25million to construct a Miraa market

Government is set to commence the construction of Miraa Trading Centre in Meru next after the foundation stone was laid at Muringene market in Igembe Central.

The two storey building will include an ample space for trading of the fresh produce, a space for packing and packaging, storage, sanitation block, loading bays and offices for plant inspectors.

Mr Kimani Munjuri who sits at The Miraa Taskforce Report Team said that the construction of two similar markets at Maya and Laare will begin March.

Miraa markets are among other projects being financed by the Treasury’s sh.1 billion allocated under 2018/19 budget.

These funds were distributed on a pro rata basis to Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties but the projects are being implemented through The Miraa Taskforce Team.

The team is under the state department of crops and chaired by Administration Secretary Kello Harsama.
