Another Moi establishment bites the dust

InterContinental Hotels has issued a notice of intention to declare redundancies to its staff within 45 days. It is also considering permanent closure of operations in Kenya.

“We write to inform you that InterContinental Hotels Corporation Limited Kenya (IHCL) is for operational reasons, considering a permanent closure of InterContinental Nairobi and winding up its operations in the Republic of Kenya. As a consequence of such intended winding up, all employment positions would become redudant,” read part of the notice to individual staff members shared on social media.

Intercontinental is co-owned by the late Daniel Moi and Joshua Kulei families.

Last month, we reported the closure of award-winning The Lord Errol Gourmet also owned by the Daniel Moi family.

Daniel Moi was the second president of Kenya, he used his position in government to enrich himself and his allies.

Now the businesses founded on non-innovation are crumbling like sand.

The Intercontinental is an American brand that has been used by the high and mighty as a sleep place when they visit Kenya.

The Lord Erroll Gourmet Restaurant, in 2017, was crowned the Global Restaurant of The Year 2017 at the Global Awards ceremony hosted by the Luxury Travel Guide at The Waldorf Hilton Hotel, London, on the 6th November 2017.

In 2018, the luxury restaurant put Kenya on the list of destinations with top global luxury restaurants by winning nine awards during the prestigious World Luxury Restaurant Awards.

Lord Erroll Director is Zahra Bahlewa Moi. Wife to the Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.

The Moi family controls some key business interests in Kenya, from hospitality, to transport and logistics.
