Azimio losers refuse to concede defeat

Azimio big wigs who lost in the August 9 general elections have resorted to excuses, blame games and threats to move to as Kenya Kwanza Alliance losers humble themselves to concede defeat and congratulate their winning counterparts.

The outgoing Nakuru Governor, Lee Kinyanjui (Jubilee) who lost to UDA’s Susan Kihika by a wide margin has hinted at challenging the gubernatorial results in court.

Kinyanjui who ran on Jubilee Party ticket, an affiliate of Azimio coalition, questioned the integrity of the process which claims did not  reflect the wish of the electorates of Nakuru.

He also blames his dismal performance to what he referred to as gaping inconsistencies in voter numbers, low turn out and violation of the voting process.

“The streams were divided alphabetically, and one wonders at the possibility of similar numbers in all them. Mathematically speaking, it means that there were people who voted for either of the positions, be it the Governor or the President and voted for no one else,” Kinyanjui argued.

And Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia who was beaten by UDA’s Moses Badilisha Kiarie is also headed to court to challenge incoming governor’s victory.

Kimemia claimed that the entire Mt. Kenya region was targeted in a rigging plot by people he can not name. He argues that there was low turnout against the high numbers noted at the end of the tallying.

“This was a scheme meant to lock out some governors in Mt Kenya region and we are working with Azimio and our legal teams over the next course of action,” Kimemia said.

The two Jubilee big wigs join Wangui Ngirici, Azimio project who contested the Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate but was beaten by Governor Ann Waiguru who successfully defended her seat on UDA ticket.

Azimio losers are not part of the new dawn where UDA candidates who lost have conceded and congratulated their opponents. Embakasi West Member of Parliament George Theuri was the first to concede defeat and congratulate his opponent Mark Mwenje of Jubilee Party.

“As we begin a new chapter, allow me to wish my brother the new incoming Embakasi West MP Hon. Mark Mureithi Mwenje best of luck as you embark to start a new era as MP elect,” Theuri stated.

Incumbent Lang’ata MP Hon. Nixon Korir also conceded defeat and congratulated his main rival Felix Odiwor alias Jalango who ran and won under the ODM ticket.

Korir conceded even before the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced Langa’ata constituency’s final results.

“From the results that we’ve tallied at the Generali centre, my competitor Jalango has a lead and I want to congratulate him as he prepares to take the mantle and move Langata forward. Siasa si chuki. God bless Langata.

“To the people of Langata, I  sincerely thank you for according me an opportunity to be your Member of Parliament for the last 5 years. It’s been a great opportunity that gave me an avenue to contribute to our nation building and service to the people.” Korir posted on Facebook.

This comes as Kenyans continue to wait for official presidential results of a close election which was marKed by a lower voter turn out than usual.

Tuesday’s election was hotly contested by Deputy President Dr. William Ruto and veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga who enjoyed the government backing and funding.

This is Odinga’s fifth attempt to clinch presidency as he ran against a vibrant Dr. Ruto who was pushed out of government by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March 2018.

According to official results reported by Kenyan media on Sunday, Dr. Ruto is currently ahead of Odinga with riot police deployed inside and around the national election tallying centre after scuffles and accusations were witnessed between party agents.
