The curfew was placed as security operation strategy to flush out criminals following increased attacks that claimed people’s lives but according to the locals, the curfew has greatly hindered their daily activities.

Samburu North Member of Parliament Alois Lentoimaga has however urged locals to abide by the law saying the curfew will also help in curbing crime in the region.

Those operating butcheries and shops claim are incurring losses as they are forced to close their shops early.

“Please remove this curfew, criminals are not in town. They have ran away to Suguta and others have fled to Marsabit County,” Leila Mohammed, a business woman in Baragoi town said.

Samburu County Commissioner Abdrisack Jeldesa defended the curfew saying insecurity incidents have began to decrease.

“From there we will extend the operation to other areas targeting criminals who are still people’s livestock, residents of Baragoi should not leave in fear we are not targeting wananchi, even though there no freedom of movement at night I know people are happy because they are sleeping at night,” he said
