Brazil fines Facebook for interfering with the users data

Brazil’s Ministry of Justice has fined U.S tech giants Facebook 1.6 million dollars for sharing the users data without authority.

The ministry’s department of consumer protection reported that it discovered data belonging to 443,000 users was made illegally available to developers of an App called ‘thisisyourdigitallife’.

The ministry reported for questionable reasons and they question Facebook’s failure to provide users with enough information on default privacy settings relating to data of friends and friends of friends.

The ministry launched investigations after media reports accused Cambridge Analytica, a political consultancy firm of misusing the users data.

Cambridge Analytica ha made headlines locally over similar accusations.

Facebook has 10 days to appeal the ruling before the payment within 30 days.
