Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has changed its stand and now are supporting the administration of COVID-19 Vaccine.
Kenya Conference also want the Ministry of Health to run a campaign aimed at encouraging people to get vaccinated.
“We urge the Ministry of Health to take all the necessary steps required to affirm to the public that the vaccines are genuine, safe and effective in order to encourage people to be vaccinated,” said KCCB.
The Conference of Catholic Bishops says receiving the vaccine was an act of charity towards other community members and should be considered a moral responsibility for the common good.
KCCB noted that the vaccination can only be done on voluntary basis and at the discretion of an individual after informed consent.
“We therefore appeal to the consciences of Kenyans to accept the Covid-19 vaccines in the light of assurance given by the Ministry of Health,” added the statement.
KCCB at the same time cautioned Kenyans who decline the vaccine to be wary of the deadly virus.
KCCB has also availed its facilities to be utilized to ensure the vaccination exercise is rolled out in an objective and well coordinated manner so that it reaches the most vulnerable in the society.
Meanwhile, the Catholic Bishops distanced themselves from a recent statement issued by the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association (KCDA) that raised questions over the efficacy of the vaccine.
