Centum PLC continues to empower Students through its CSR

Centum, the leading and largest investment company in East and Central Africa, has supported deserving and talented students at all educational levels throughout the years by providing them with scholarships, which has helped many students realize their professional aspirations.

Centum began a scholarship programme in Kilifi County in 2016 through its Vipingo Development subsidiary. Since then, 50 scholarships have been given out yearly to high school students who received more than 300 on the KCPE. Additionally, the firm (Centum Investment Company) established a vocational training facility in the neighbourhood where it offered scholarships to locals to help them develop valuable technical skills for their own economic empowerment.

As part of its corporate social responsibility agenda, Vipingo Development set aside a budget to upgrade education facilities in the region annually. Two primary schools, Timboni Primary School and Makonde Primary School have already benefited from this fund.

“Today is another joyous opportunity, one of our proudest moments. We are awarding scholarships to 50 bright and needy beneficiaries who would have missed a chance to join high school,” said Kenneth Mbae, the then Managing director of Vipingo development who is now the managing director of Centum real estate .

“We sponsor them because we want to transform the communities where we do business and one of the biggest way for transformation is through education that’s why we are pushing for this scholarship programme and we’ve seen some benefits,” he added.

Centum’s mission is to create real, tangible wealth by providing the channel through which investors access and build extraordinary enterprises in Africa.
