Covid-19: Twyford Ceramic Firm Concentration Camp In Kajiado

An employee of Keda Ceramics which also manufactures Twyford tiles has written to Kenyanbulletin.com about their Nazi concentration-like work environment.

Since the govt gazetted that staff should be let go early at 4 pm so as to allow for the observance of the dusk to dawn curfew, some employees like Twyford decided to cut corners. The management has forced staff to live within their compound in Kajiado.

“I am an employee of KEDA ceramics (twyford) in Kajiado. My concern is how we are being forced to reside within the company yet the facilities are pathetic, no food provided, one can only buy from the hotels which close at 6pm”, he wrote.

Covid-19 is said to be contagious and people have been urged to social distance, not shake hands, wash hands with soap and running water for at least 20 seconds et, yet Keda (Twyford) staff love hurdles like pigs inside the firm’s compound.

The situation is dire as he puts it.

“No one is allowed to cook in the premises. My biggest worry is the number of people being forced to reside within the company. How possible is it for over a thousand people to share bathrooms, toilets, yet the Ministry of Health (MoH) is talking about social distancing? “.

Their problems is made worse when they go to buy food. Many of them queue, forming a congestion when they go to buy supper in the nearby hotels. The employee worries that this makes them easy to catch Covid-19.

” The pressure there as people queue to buy supper before hotels are closed is enough to spread corona incase of a victim. We are interacting with people customers from worst affected areas like Nairobi and Mombasa and other affected areas who still have the potential to spread the virus”, he says.

The employee says that the management has also put a directive that if one loves they should not come back.

“Watu wamefungiwa kwa Kampuni. Because once you leave the gate, no coming back”, he concluded.
