A Daily Nation editor barely escaped with his life after armed robbers accosted him while on his way home from work on Wednesday, November 7, 2019.
Jackson Mutinda was reported to have left his office at 9pm and was walking to catch a matatu when he realized that he did not have enough fare.
According to a report by NMG, Mutinda walked to an ATM to withdraw money and was on his way back to the stage when tragedy struck.
“The street was deserted and I could only see one or two people trying to rush to their various destinations. I withdrew Ksh2,000, put the money in my wallet and walked out of the ATM lobby,” Mutinda was quoted.
The robbers are reported to have waylaid him and finally pounced on him when he got to Afya Center.
“They stalked me from the ATM and it seems they were waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack me. I was pinned to some rails with a gun to my stomach and they asked for the cash I’d withdrawn. The one with the gun had cop written all over him,” Mutinda narrated.
The editor reported that the thugs also made away with his watch and iPhone.
The thugs are reported to have handed back his ATM, ID, insurance cards and Ksh 50 to facilitate his travel home.
