DCI after 2 Thugs captured defacing SGR Transformers

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have opened an investigation into two alleged criminals who were caught on video defacing Standard Gauge Railway transformers (SGR).

According to DCI chief George Kinoti, the detectives operating the SGR system got a signal when a crucial power supply unit at the Makindu sub-station was interfered with.

“A contingent of officers based at Makindu and Emali police stations was dispatched to arrest the thugs, who immediately dashed to nearby thickets on noticing the beaming lights of a fast-approaching police land cruiser,” the police report read in part.

The authorities are now hunting for the individuals after their identities were disclosed and it has been established that the transformers are equipped with a monitoring system.

Unbeknownst to the thugs, the transformers fitted with around-the-clock surveillance system had already sent their images to our command center,”

Police have further warned Kenyans against vandalizing the railway properties as it attracts charges related to Economic Sabotage and Terrorism.

Last month, a Mombasa-bound Madaraka Express passenger train was stranded for hours in Change village in Makueni county after the vandalism was reported on the railway line.

A scrap metal dealer police believe had had a hand in the vandalism following the incident was arrested.
