Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya is once again in the spotlight showing indications of siding with Siaya Senator James Orengo in the ongoing, and deepening wrangles within the Orange Democratic Movement party.
This is after details emerged of the weekend
meeting between the two leaders in the company of Rarieda Member of Parliament
Otiende Amollo, after a church service in Butere.
Otiende and Orengo reportedly took chopper rides yesterday Sunday 9th May 2021 to attend the meeting that took place after the service at St Benedict Catholic Church Mukoye.
During the meeting, the trio pledged support for the party leader Raila Odinga and the ODM but accused a number of high-ranking party officials of misleading its leader.
They warned the AU
special envoy to be “wary of people who want to ruin the party’s
chances of forming the next government.”
“We are in
ODM by faith and Mr. Odinga is our unequivocal leader. However, we won’t allow
a few people to deceive him,” stated Otiende Amollo.
The trio is faulted for their stand on the new 70 constituencies proposed in the 2010 constitutional amendment bill.
Otiende’s defiance on the matter recently reportedly saw him ousted from his lucrative Judicial and Legal Affairs position, with rumors of Orengo ejection, whispered to be in the offing.
Following the rumors, ODM leader Raila Odinga in a statement quashed things noting that the party had no plans to replace him.
“Following changes effected on Wednesday to the representation of the Orange Democratic Movement in the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, there has been unfounded and widespread speculation that the Party is about to change its Minority leadership in the Senate.”
“We wish to clarify that Rt. Hon Raila Odinga, the ODM Party Leader, and the Orange Democratic Movement have no plans to replace Senator James Orengo as the Leader of Minority in the Senate,” read the statement in part.
