Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Official Roselyn Akombe has condemned the recently witnessed drama at Nyamira County where police officers have interfered with Deputy President William Ruto’s meeting defending the Second in Command.

According to Akombe, she has penned asserting that even though the Deputy President has no record of fighting for the Katiba it still protects his rights as he embraces his new role of Opposition Leader and that he should not be intimidated.

DP Ruto has no record of fighting for the Katiba. He campaigned against it & as DP has presided over police brutality, tear-gassing & other retrogressive measures (security bill). But, the Katiba still protects his rights as he embraces his new role of Opposition Leader,” Akombe has asserted.

Recently, Ruto had also condemned the actions of police officers being used to block his meetings and intimidating leaders allied to him asking the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai not to allow being used by politicians but concentrate on protecting the lives of Kenyans.

“I want to ask the Inspector-General of Police not to accept to participate in political assignments given by people who do not have the authority to give those instructions. The reason why the Constitution made the police service independent and the IG independent of any office is so that they can serve the entirety of the people of Kenya,” the DP said.

“They threw teargas at a church, where a whole Deputy President was worshipping. So I ask them: Even if you despise me this much, can we at least respect the seat that these people gave me?” DP Ruto added.
