The body of Dr. Stephen Mogusu who succumbed to COVID-19 complications on Monday is still lying in the hospital morgue because his family can’t pay the hospital bill.
According to Reuters, the late Mogusu’s wife, who is also a doctor, is unable to pay the bill of more than KSh1 million. He had been admitted at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.
The 28-year-old doctor who was working in a COVID-19 ward at a public hospital in Machakos County had not received his salary for five months by the time of his demise.
Dr. Mogusu has left behind a wife and a five-month-old daughter.
KMPDU on Sunday called off their announced strike which was meant to start on Monday to allow for dialogue with the government.
“If the issues will remain unsolved upon the lapse of 14 days, the strike will commence on December 21st, 2020,” KMPDU Secretary General Chibanzi Mwachonda said.
The frontline workers are demanding for employment of 2,350 doctors, more personal protection equipment as they tackle Covid-19, medical insurance, risk allowance, and payment of all overdue salaries and allowances.
