The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is delving into the alleged illegal acquisition of properties by the four governors worth Ksh. 11.5 billion.

Reports have revealed that the EACC is currently probing the acquisition of properties worth Billions of shillings by Governors Moses Lenolkulal (Samburu County), Evans Kidero (Former Nairobi County), Mike Sonko (Former Nairobi County) as well as Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu County).

While appearing before the Senate Justice and Legal Affairs Committee on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala disclosed that the Commission is has raised concerned about the acquisition of the property.

Wabukala also revealed that the commission had seized assets worth Ksh. 25 billion stolen from the public over the last five years.

At the same time, the Wabukala further stated that EACC had presented the loss of over Ksh. 30 billion during the same 5-year period.

He added that the commission has probed 1,000 corruption
cases, with 269 of them being prosecuted in courts.

“Examples of high impact cases
involved 9 former/current Governors, Principal Secretaries, Senators, MPs,
Managing Directors of State Corporations among others,” said Wabukala.

He however cited budgetary
constraints, politicization of the fight against graft, and unethical conduct
besides a weak legal framework as some of the barriers hindering the
commission’s work.
