The Police have in custody a 29-year-old man who was nabbed red-handed defiling a Standard Three pupil at Kisui beach in Homa Bay County.
In an incident that happened on Wednesday, the suspect identified as Erick Omondi Oyoo, a fisherman based at Kisui beach in Homa Bay is accused of defiling a 9 year old girl in his rental house.
Fredrick Wanyende, Kisui Beach Management Unit chairperson told this writer that the suspect was caught red-handed having coitus with the minor on his matrimonial bed when his wife was cleaning their compound.
Wanyande says that the suspect’s wife raised an alarm to the beach management unit leadership who rushed to the scene and arrested him before he was handed over to the area Assistant chief and officers from Mbita police station.
The minor was rushed to Mbita Sub County hospital for treatment where a medical examination revealed that the minor was defiled.
Area Assistant Chief Elisha Orwa added that the suspect’s wife was also arrested after she attempted to commit suicide to allegedly divert attention so that her husband could not be arrested.
This is coming at a time that the Kenya Coast Guard has beefed up patrols on Lake Victoria, cracking down on illegal fishermen, undersized nets, rapist disguised as fishermen, smuggling and pollution
On Wednesday, KCGS officers enjoined by KRA and Immigration officials launched an operation to save the lake from activities that threaten marine life and hurt the blue economy.
KCGS officer in charge of Inland Squadron Lt Bernard Mibei said are patrolling to protect the lake and fishermen from internal and external threats.
They patrolled along Doho, Kaimbo, Homa Line, Kisaka, Pier and Remo beaches in Homa Bay.
