Expansion Of Nairobi-Nakuru Highway By Italian Firm To Start In December

James Macharia the Transport and Infrastructure Cabinet Secretary has announced the expansion of Nairobi-Nakuru highway will commence in December.

According to CS, the road is to be done under a public-private partnership and that will see the highway feature a four-lane dual carriageway in its first phase.

The traffic filled Nairobi-Nakuru highway expansion plan has created huge debates from key figures involved in allegations of fraud and backdoor tender issuing that have since been thwarked by courts.

Mr. James Macharia stated that the first phase of the expansion will hold a new dawn for business in Kenya and open up doors to investments. The highway will be expanded to a 4-lane dual carriageway which could possibly be increased to six lanes depending on traffic.

An Italian firm was awarded the tender to carry out the expansion at the cost of KSh160 billion. This expansion will be a relief to the public especially flower farmers and those in the tourism industry over the dilapidated state of the Moi South Lake Road in Naivasha. The Transport Cabinet Secretary announced that works on the busy road will commence in the next week.
