Faith Kipyegon is set to return to competition at the Monaco Diamond League meeting, where she will line up in the women’s 3,000m just days after suffering a rare defeat at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

The world record holder is among the headline names confirmed for the Herculis EBS meeting scheduled for Friday, July 10, at the Stade Louis II, a venue where she has previously delivered some of the most memorable performances of her career.
In 2023, Kipyegon famously set the women’s mile world record of 4:07.64 at the same Monaco meeting, further cementing her dominance in middle-distance running on the Diamond League circuit.
This year’s women’s 3,000m is expected to be one of the most competitive races of the event, featuring a strong lineup of global distance stars. Kipyegon will be joined by compatriot and World Cross Country Champion Agnes Ngetich, who recently impressed with a record-breaking 10K performance in New York.
The field also includes a stacked international lineup featuring athletes such as Nadia Battocletti of Italy, Jessica Hull of Australia, Gabriela Debues-Stafford of Canada, Cassandre Beaugrand of France, Francine Niyomukunzi of Burundi, Nozomi Tanaka of Japan, Jana Van Lent of Belgium, and several top Ethiopian runners including Freweyni Hailu, Senayet Getachew, Aleshign Baweke, Bernesh Dessie, and Yenenesh Shimket.
Kipyegon’s return comes shortly after her remarkable five-year unbeaten streak in Diamond League 1500m and mile races was ended at the Prefontaine Classic on July 4, where she was narrowly beaten in the women’s mile by American runner Nikki Hiltz.
The triple Olympic champion is increasingly expanding her focus beyond the 1,500m, gradually testing herself in longer distances such as the 3,000m and 5,000m as she evolves her racing career.
Her shift toward longer events gained momentum after winning her fourth world 1,500m title and securing silver in the 5,000m at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Monaco now offers another high-level test as she continues building versatility across multiple distance categories while maintaining her dominance on the global stage.
