Five members of a family who perished in a grisly road accident on Christmas Day have today been laid to rest.
The burial of Ronald Bundi Maucho, his wife Veronica and their three daughters Marion (their first-born), Natalia (second born) and Claire (fourth born) took place on Friday, 7th January 2021, in Bobasi Sub-county, Kisii.
The family had left Mombasa on the morning of 25th December 2021, headed to Nyakegogi village in Kisii to celebrate the festive season as they have always done.
But a speeding Subaru driver veered off course into his lane while overlapping at Egwata area near Voi leading to a head-on collision.
According to an obituary published in the Daily Nation on January 4, Natalia, a pupil at Loreto Convent Mombasa and Claire, a pupil at SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary School in Kisauni, died on the spot.
Marion survived the accident but succumbed six days later at the Coast General Hospital while undergoing treatment.
Speaking on Friday, Casmir Nyabuto, an elder brother to Bundi, said that his brother’s two sons who survived the accident are currently recuperating at the Coast General Hospital.
“Even as we mourn my brother, his wife and their three children, we are grateful to God for saving the lives of my two young nephews who are currently in hospital and responding well to treatment,” noted Nyabuto.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to Kisii on Thursday, January 6, 2021, for an overnight stay, after a requiem at St Francis of Assisi Customs Parish in Nyali, Mombasa.
Mr Bundi was described as an honest and hardworking man by family, friends and workmates.
