TV Swahili news anchors Fridah Mwaka and Lofty Matambo are expected to light up the local screen sooner.
The two left Mombasa Road-based media house Standard
Group in April and are expected on NTV soon.
Frida and Lofty’s exit has been touted as a blow to Standard’s Swahili news desk, seeing many have been leaving.

The group’s turnover has further hit other news desks, as unconfirmed reports indicate others like Linda Oguttu and Ben Kitili are also being wooed.
This comes on the backdrop of Standard’s new newsroom, where managers say the new business model will focus on convergence.
Many have criticized the move, saying it is ill-timed. The exit of some top managers and anchors is only one of the many challenges facing the team at Mombasa Road.
Mwaka and Lofty are expected to revamp NTV’s Swahili team seeing as they will be paired.
Other power pairs popular on TV include Citizen’s Rashid Abdalla and Lulu Hassan and Jeff Koinange, and Victoria Rubadiri.
The Kenyan TV scene has built precedence where news is delivered in pairs. In many instances, the pair includes a man and a woman, except for the Lulu Hassan-Kanze Dena duo before the latter joined State House as the spokesperson.
Kenyans are excited to “e-meet” the Matambo-Mwaka duo if NTV’s Head of Swahili News Salim Swaleh’s comments are anything to go by.
He recently shared a teaser video of the two and captioned it “coming soon.” The excitement was evident.
Cases of media personalities leaving one station to join another are commonplace in Kenya. Some include Linda Oguttu and Kitili, who are being touted to join NTV, where they were previously joining KTN. Trevor Ombija and Jeff Koinange, currently with Citizen, were also previously at NTV and KTN.
Ken Mijungu from NTV also recently joined KTN as a
senior anchor.
