Former player embarks on coaching journey – KBC

Retired Kenya Premier player Ronald Okoth is relishing at an opportunity of venturing into professional coaching a year after hanging his boots.

The 33-year-old who lastly featured for 2009 Kenya Premier League Champions Sofapaka, before mutually parting ways and calling it quits; is currently coaching RO Sports Academy, a flagship entity of Road to Goals Organization which he founded.

“Finally kicked off my professional coaching journey by attending my first CAF D Coaching License course properly and professionally facilitated by Football Kenya Federation, excited to be part of this elite level coaching education program that is building us into future top managers.”

The federation presided over the opening ceremony of a ten-day CAF D coaching course at the Ligi Ndogo grounds along Ngong road.

Under the tutelage of Instructors George Mwangi and Leon Matthews, the course is expected to benefit 40 coaches.

FKF CEO Barry Otieno echoed one of the Federation’s agendas on ensuring capacity building of coaches across the country who will share their football knowledge to their youth players that in the long term, will help improve the standards of football in the country.

“As per our vision, we aim to ensure capacity building of all our coaches so they may transfer their acquired knowledge to their players and hence raise the standards of football in the country,” affirmed Otieno.

Okoth started his playing career in Siaya County where he turned out for Siaya Rangers and went ahead to play for other teams like Salem Sportiff, Jericho All-Stars, Congo United, while on the top-level, he featured for Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, Mathare United, Mahakama FC, Nairobi Stima, Western Stima, KCB and eventually Sofapaka.
