36 Garissa County MCAs have signed a petition seeking to remove the County Assembly Speaker Ibrahim Ahmed Abass from office.
Led by Maalimin MCA Mohamud Aden, the MCAs have accused the Speaker of gross violation of the constitution incompetence, Gross misconduct among other accusations.
Aden said they have served the Assembly’s Clerk who is expected to notify the Speaker of their intention to impeach him.
“Today the 11th May 2021, we the undersigned Members of County Assembly have officially filed a notice of motion by way of impeachment in accordance with Constitution of Kenya 2010 Article 73, 75, 178, 201, 232, and Section 7 of the County Government (Amendment) act 2020, section 21 (5)(c) of the elections Act,” They said.

Dadaab MCA Mohamed Abdi said the Speaker has resorted into running the Assembly in total disregard of the Constitution adding that the impeach has nothing to do with clan or politics.
“We would like to assure members of the public and the executive wing of the Government, that there will be no service hindrance as we execute the legislative process,” He said.
The MCAs say the petition is not driven by malice but the need to operate professionally and run the Assembly in a befitting manner,” Abdi said.
They now expect to table the motion on the floor of the House on Tuesday next week at the expiry of the seven-day notice.
“We are calling on security agencies in the County to reign on those planning to disrupt the exercise next week, we are aware the Speaker and his sympathizers are up to no good,” He said.
Efforts to reach the speaker were futile as he didn’t respond to our calls.
