Geothermal Development Company(GDC) will receive( $692,000) KSh 76 Million from New Zealand to strengthen its technical and managerial capacities in geothermal steam operations at the Menengai Geothermal Field.

According to Jared Othieno, GDC Chief Executive, this financial deal will provide the state firm with technical assistance in steam-field operational management, geoscience and reservoir management, compliance processes and sustainable field development.

How GDC will benefit from the financial support

Under the NZ-Africa Geothermal Facility, this package was signed between Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and Trade of New Zealand and the African Union Commission.

Othieno said these funds would expand access to affordable, reliable and clean energy through the increased use of geothermal energy resources.

The New Zealand-Africa Geothermal Facility is being implemented under a partnership arrangement between New Zealand and the African Union Commission Partnership Arrangement.

The NZ AGF seeks to provide technical assistance and capacity building services to help alleviate geothermal development barriers.

The funding will enable better understanding and control of geothermal resources.
