Popular media personality Githinji Mwangi popularly known as Mbusii has heaped praise on Ghetto Radio as the place that made him the most sought after Radio Presenter in the country.
Mbusii who honed his presenting skills at Ghetto Radio, was speaking to Jalang’o on his tumultuous journey to the top.
He says that after clearing Secondary School he joined arts at the Kenya National Theater.
He joined the traveling theater as an actor where he staged different shows in schools based on set books.
Though the pay wasn’t promising he pressed on while also doubling up as a weed peddler for his survival at the Kenya National Theater.
“Pesa haikukua poa vile, na nikaanza kuuza mimea(weed),” he narrated.
It was while at the facility that he was sourced to join Ghetto Radio in 2008 as a comedian through the guidance of Mwafrika who tasked him with announcing traffic updates.
“Mwafrika aliona huku nje ntapotea ndio akaniambia kaa hapa,nikasoma news za traffic alafu nikakuwa messenger kwa miaka kama mbili na nusu,” he says.
A determined Mbusii would learn studio operations bit by bit and when Majimaji assumed as the Station’s Head and saw his hunger for success and paired him up with Bonoko.
Bonoko had been picked from the streets and the two formed a formidable drive show “Goteana” which runs to date.
Other media houses notably Citizen tried to poach both Mbusii and Bonoko in expanding their market share but the plan failed.
It was Shaffie Weru then at Kiss FM who talked to Mbusii on behalf of Radio Africa before he made the switch to Radio Jambo.
“Ni Shaffie aniconvince niende ata nilikuwa nadhani naenda kufanya kazi Kiss ndio nikaambiwa Jambo ata sikuwa naijua,” he said.
He tried to convince Bonoko for the move and he declined, a few deejays also turned him down and he opted to move out with Lion.
Though he made the move, he has good kept a good tab remembering where he came from.
“Bado mi huongea na Bonoko, ata yeye ndio hupiga simu, ananunua lunch na kuniwekea mafuta kwa gari,” the Korogocho slum Star says.
He has advised youths to go out and seek opportunities and stop the jealousy when one of their own makes it in life.
