Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are currently trying to unearth an incident where a police Constable attached to the Gigiri police station took his own life yesterday Tuesday 8, 2021.
According to police reports from the crime scene the officer shat himself in the head with a registered AK-47 fire arm killing himself instantly.
The incent took place at the Amisom offices behind the United States of America Embassy in four Kilometers away from the Gigiri police station.
Further reports from the investigative authorities indicate that the constable was assigned to the workstation alongside a female colleague on the material day.
The colleague would later in the day at around 2.20 PM leave for a short lunch, only to return a few minutes later and find him dead.
The incident adds to the recent tally of police officers committing suicide while on duty, with the most recent one being of CS Matiang’is aid.
Constable Wakise Hudson opened fire on his wife pumping several bullets in her after a disagreement killing her instantly before turning the gun on himself.
This comes amid reports from the National Police Commission on increased number of suicide among police officers attributed to the limited supervision among junior officers living outside the camps.
“Stagnation in rank, disciplinary actions arising from desertion and inadequate monitoring of junior officers leaving outside police lines are among causes of stress in officers identified,” reads an excerpt of the statement.
At the beginning of last month a video of a police officer requesting IG Mutyambai to let him resign peacefully even without pay, on grounds of constant frustrations from her seniors.
“I just want a chance to resign peacefully. I have attached several letters meant for the IG but they never get to him. That is why police officers get frustrated to a point of committing suicide or killing themselves, something I cannot do,” she commented.
Another officer based in the Kenyan boarder of Busia also resorted to selling fish after claims of frustrations from her bosses, despite winning an award from President Uhuru Kenyatta for her good work.
