Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is currently appearing before a Nairobi court to answer to fresh corruption charges.
Governor Sonko is accused, alongside others, of money laundering and the unlawful acquisition of public property amounting to Sh357 million.
Governor Sonko is facing a new challenge after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) last week amended his charge sheet to include abuse of office charges.
Sonko allegedly demanded a Sh10 million bribe from Web Tribe Limited back in January 2019 in order to facilitate county government payments.
Consequently, Anti-Corruption Court Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ordered Governor Sonko to appear in court today to take a fresh plea to the corruption charges.
In the fresh charge, Sonko is charged alongside ROG Security Limited and the firm’s director Otieno Ombok alias Jamal.
His case will take 28 days and each day will be allocated five hours. No adjournments will be allowed.
