Kenyan taxpayers have lost Sh224.5 billion since Jubilee administration won their second term in 2017 to mid this year.
A report by the Directorate Public Prosecution shows was swindled through fraudulent means in government projects and procurement activities.
DDP Noordin Haji says he has prosecuted cases worth Sh3.9 billion — paltry, which roughly 1.7% of the stolen money.
The report handed over to President Uhuru Kenyatta shows that cases worth Sh67 billion worth of cases were recorded in 2017 and before.
Then another bunch worth Sh157 billion were recorded between January 2018 and June this year.
The president and the DPP have stepped up the verbal war on graft targeting senior state officials including Cabinet secretaries, principal secretaries and governors but the prosecution pace remains extremely slow.
DPP Haji has only managed to charge seven CSs and PSs for corruption and arraigned some 11 governors and senior county officials in 24 months.
At least 22 chief executive officers of government agencies were charged, seven MPs, five MCAs and one deputy county commissioner were charged with corruption.
“This is a clear illustration of the concerted efforts put by the office in collaboration with other stakeholders in the fight against graft for the three years,” Haji said.
The report also shows that 238 cases were concluded, 20 were dispensed by June 2020; 103 in 2019; and 115 in 2018.
President Uhuru made drastic changes at the office of the DPP and Directorate of Criminal Investigations in early 2018.
Noordin Haji was appointed the DPP and George Kinoti was appointed the boss of DCI.
The president also made changes at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission where a military intelligence officer, Twalib Mbarak was put at the helm.
Most of the reported cases value at over Sh143 billion were registered in 2019 alone including 13 which involved Sh100 million each.
Also topping the cases in 2019 include Kimwarer and Arror dams where Sh63 billion were looted.
