Hassan Abdulahi Osman; why this candidate got a special mention from Magoha – Kenyan_Report

Hassan Abdulahi Osman was not among the top performing students. In fact, he didn’t even appear in the top one hundred list. He only scored a B-. However, he was accorded special attention yesterday. The story behind his performance is interesting enough to hopefully be turned into a movie one day.

Not only is it inspirational, but also enough proof that anything in life is possible as long as one believes and puts in the required effort.

Although the story of Hassan Abdulahi Osman was told within the context of the 2020 KCSE examinations results, it is a story that stretches way back to the year 2016 when he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.

Those were the results which were informally known as the Matiang’I results because of the stringent marking process that was involved in the whole process.

Not many candidates passed as had been the case in previous years, but this was more so in Hassan’s case. He could only manage a paltry 168 marks.

Such a low score would have been enough to send a lesser student down a spiral descent of hopelessness and desolation, or even in an extreme case, suicide as has been witnessed.

However, Hassan dealt the hand he was given. Refusing to be defined by this slip up in his educational journey, he decided to proceed on to secondary school and work harder to make sure he performed better in his O-levels.

His unfortunate streak appeared to follow him even up to secondary after the Corona virus struck and the exams that he was supposed to sit for in 2020 were uncertain. They were thus postponed to 2021 but this didn’t deter Hassan.

He studied hard through the tough condition of the pandemic and sat for his exams in Wiyam secondary school. His hard work paid off as he was able to score a B-.
