There is a heavy police presence within Nairobis Central Business District (CBD) ahead of a potentially dramatic Monday when Governor Mike Sonko will be arraigned in court.
A number of major roads within the CBD have been sealed off by police vehicles since Saturday night.
Several roads leading to Sonkos County government offices, the Supreme Court, plus President Kenyatta and Deputy President William Rutos office in the CBD have been sealed off by police trucks.
Kenyanbulletin.com understands police expect hundreds or even thousands of Sonko supporters to flock town on Monday to show solidarity with the governor.
This even as the police warned Sonko’s supporters against causing unrest in the city over his arrest, saying they would deal with any trouble makers.
Police are aware of a group of individuals mobilising to cause civil unrest, let any demonstration be done on strict adherence with the law, the police said in a statement.
Sonko was arrested on Friday morning along the Nairobi-Mombasa highway by some 150 policemen, moments after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for his arrest for corruption-related crimes.
Sonko has since released a statement stressing his innocence, and urging his supporters to maintain calm.
